    Nice tank but why do you have a goldfish in there? Also you shouldn’t put shells in a freshwater tank.

    Yeah the gold fish shouldn’t be in there. It is ok to put shells in freshwater tanks. They may alter the water chemistry slightly, which isn’t a big deal. You do want to avoid dead coral in freshwater tanks though….

    Actually, she does know what she’s talking about… mostly…

    HOWEVER: NEVER put shells in a freshwater tank, especially if they were from a salt water environment, they leach calcium into the water. This makes your general hardness levels go up and makes it harder to regulate pH. She is essentially counter-acting the acidic benefit for her tetras from the driftwood. Although, having said that, there may not be enough shells to produce an effect… still - shells = bad.
